PDF Print E-mail

When Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke was visiting North Carolina, meeting with the mayor in his office to talk about the Declaration of a Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba Day, was the only point of his agenda; however,  a surprise consecration came from the American Senate regional Assembly. Senator Larry Shaw, himself, handed to Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke, the Leadership Award Achievement, in recognition of his religious leadership.

The Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba day celebration in North Carolina will remain the most important chapter of the remarkable US tour of Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke.

The Senegalese community of this US southern state had an appointment with the mayor of the town of Raleigh, for Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke. But American authorities are not indifferent to the many echoes of the official visits of the Shaykh around the world. As so, the Senate Regional Assembly of North Carolina sent one member, the Muslim senator Larry Shaw, to attend the opening Ceremony. The senator had in his briefcase a senatorial document acknowledging Serigne Mame Mor an established religious guide.

The Senator Larry Shaw will also make a testimony to the credit of the murid community. He refrained from cheering them up, for “it is a community that doesn’t need encouragement in order to refill its batteries, because they are already full. The most characteristics of this community is its dynamism and conviction, according to him. I saw in your leader a perfect example of a guide who is very attached to the religion of Allah (SWT).

The senator said he was very honoured on the occasion to be able communicate with the community living in North Carolina and he wishes to open a new breach in his mission at the North Carolina Senate.

Alluding to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s teachings, the democrat Muslim senator Shaw followed the same line of the hadith that says “the pen of God’s lieutenants is sharper than the enemies’ weapons in the battlefield”. Thus using the same prophetic references that teach “ the best among you is the one serving his community” ; and this Leadership Award is in that same logic, said the senator who also added “ People will always need leaders to guide them in order to step forward”

By the end of the award ceremony, the senator met again with Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke, the next morning, in the Mayor’s office, in Raleigh. The Senegalese delegation was welcomed in the Mayor of Raleigh’s office, Charles Meeker. And it was the occasion to lay the foundation of a new partnership between the Senegalese Community in North Carolina and the Municipality of Raleigh, above all in the High education field. The Mayor pointed it out when Serigne Mame Mor introduced him his projects especially the Al Azhar Ndam University Project.
